No Way Out But Through

I didn't mean to go this long, but things have been busy and I haven't had the mental or emotional capacity to keep on top of things. I usually read friends' posts even if I'm not making my own, but I haven't really done that either.

My mom died in June. She was getting better until all of a sudden she wasn't, and then things happened very quickly. It was just after the conference I ran, which went spectacularly well, and a couple of days before the press release for my project went out. I spent the first couple of weeks basically in shock - my brain seemed to figure that if we just don't process any information at all, it won't be real and we won't be sad.

It worked for a while.

It turns out you can pause a Marie Curie fellowship in these circumstances, so I took three months off to go home and hang out with my dad and try and get back to where I could focus on anything. I'm getting there. I got back to Aber about a week ago and am finally starting to feel human again.

I'm very grateful to have such a supportive department, and still pretty sad a lot of the time.

Anyway, that's where we are.
