(no subject)

I dyed my hair pink. I've always wanted to go ALL a vibrant color. I've had green and blue and pink and orange, but only streaks and chunks. This time we bleached it all and it is HOT pink. I've had it 2 days and everyone thinks I did it for cancer so I'm letting them believe that. I only hear words of encouragement and support. OMG all the love.

I'm honestly not trying to be cynical about this because I do appreciate everyone being positive and uplifting

But I can see why there's a survivor "culture". People are SO nice to you and you get so many gifts and perks. I've had cancer basically 4 months. I can see how for people who go through this for much longer, it might be a hard thing to let go. I can see why people wouldn't want to. I can see why people will wear pink. If you had cancer and got the goodies, then you got better, and your hair grew back and you looked healthy and people stopped being nice to you and you quit getting the perks...I can see how a big portion of the breast cancer merch juggernaut caters to people who want to feel cancer-special. (stay tuned for my next rant-I kinda get munchausen syndrome now, but the by proxy is still inconceivable)

And I can tell you, no tits and bright pink hair and everyone is so so so fucking nice to my survivor ass

And I'm not saying people who survive cancer shouldn't celebrate the fact. What I'm saying is breast cancer is not just the club no one wants to belong to, it's also an industry.

And that's why I said I don't want to be cynical because that's an ugly way to look at this. Cancer is hard. Living is good. Share what you're proud of. It's nice someone makes a product so you can.

This is all very confusing.

Anyway, I have pink hair and every October I'll be the one telling you all to check your rack.
